When did you start training?
I was first introduced to training after my husband had bought me a package for Christmas with Mike Davies in 2010. I don’t know if my husband knows it, but it was one of the best presents he had EVER given me. I fell in love with it. I was training four times a week and was in the best shape of my life. I use to be the kind of person who would see other girls at the gym and say to myself “I want look like that someday” – well Mike made that possible. Mike Davies is one of the best. I feel so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to train with him.
When did you decide you wanted to compete and why did you make that choice?
Competing was one of my “bucket list” items. I had never been big on getting up in front of people, especially in a bathing suit – so it was something that was way out of my comfort zone, but something I always wanted to prove to myself that I could do.
What is your favorite part about training for competition?
For me the best part is feeling good about myself and knowing that I was the one that did it. I was given the tools to make it possible – but ultimately it is up to you. The time – the dedication – the diet, it is all up to you. I would also have to say the group I train with. You spend so much time with them every day. They become like family. They see you at your worst and they see you at your best. You share experiences with them that no one else can understand.
Your least favorite part about training for competition? My least favorite part would have to be all of the cardio, and time spent away from my family. I give so much credit to my AMAZING husband and son, who have both allowed me to compete. We typically do cardio 30-40 minutes in the morning and again at night. So it takes a lot of time and dedication. You see people up on stage and in the gym – but unless you have competed it is hard to understand how much time it really takes. When other people are sleeping in, I am at the gym doing cardio at 5am.
Favorite body part to train? That’s hard – it would have to be a tie between legs and shoulders!! I love having well defined upper body, but I also love having nice legs and a tight behind.
Least Favorite body part to train? My back. I fell down the stairs when I was 12 and landed on my tailbone. So I have always struggled with my back. I continue to train in hopes that it will continue to get stronger.
Give me a day in the life of a Angie Siemer Henson?
Monday –Friday I wake up at 4:45am, to the gym by 5am – doing 30-45 minutes of cardio in the morning, some light stretching and abs. I run home get my son ready for school, pack lunch for him and my meals for the day. I usually eat 6-8 times during the day. Try to eat every 2-2 ½ hrs. I normally make most of my food on Sunday to carry me thru the week. That way I can just weigh out my meals and put in container to take to work. Then I am off to work from 7- 3:30 everyday. Get off work, run home – change and then back to the gym from 4:30 – 6:00pm for more cardio and training. After that I head home, make dinner, homework, cook food for the next day, maybe a little reading or T.V. to unwind, shower and in bed by 9pm so I can get up and do it all over again the next day.
Tell me something you have had to overcome in life that has played a significant role in who you are? Has it impacted you positively with regard to training or negatively or not at all? My parents divorced when I was 13. I saw my mom work three jobs at times so I could play sports, travel with my volleyball team and enjoy being a teenager. I learned that life isn’t always easy – you have to work for what you want. Never to give up on your dreams. If you want it bad enough – you will make it happen. She is not only an inspiration – but my best friend. She has made me who I am today.
What are your fitness/competition goals? To stay in the best shape I can. To be happy and healthy is my main goal. I would love to place in the top 3 in my next show and I want to become a certified personal trainer so I start helping others obtain their goals.
What shows have you competed in? My very first show was the Francois in 2012 and then the Ohio in 2013. I have only competed twice so far but love the feeling of accomplishment you get when you get up on stage.
What shows do you have planned to compete in the next year?
I am currently thinking about doing one more show this year. Both are in November – one is in West Virginia the other in Kentucky. I’d like to try one out of state just to see how the judging differs.

Anything else you have to say about life or training you want to share? Your inspiration?
My inspiration would most definitely have to be my “MOM” – she started me young. Trying different sports as a child to see what I enjoyed. I learned that hard work and determination pays off. She taught me to go after what I wanted. To never settle, to work hard and you can accomplish what you put your mind to. She is one of the toughest people I know. When I feel like giving up – I think back to high school when she was working 3 jobs just so I could play on a travel league for volleyball. She would get off work and drive me an hour each way to practice and never once complained. She is my best friend, and I thank God every day for blessing me with such an amazing mother and role model.
